CAROLINA BEACH — Progress is being made at the former Federal Point Shopping Center where developers have already demolished the dilapidated plaza and begun work on the construction of a new Publix.

Meanwhile, the neighboring lot where Harris Teeter has promised to build a new grocery store remains empty, as it has for years.

According to Interim Town Manager Ed Parvin, Harris Teeter was notified it had to cut the grass at its lot and make repairs to the sign that sits on the vacant lot, the store has complied.

The two developers behind both stores have been tied up in litigation after the Town of Carolina Beach’s Town Council voted in favor of the Publix and allowed them to construct without requiring interconnectivity.

The outcome of the court cases have not yet been determined as Harris Teeter’s developer continues to draw out litigation through appeals.
