Update 12:05 p.m. — According to the Carolina Beach Police Department, the town’s police and fire departments, as well as New Hanover County EMS, were dispatched to a “subject down” on the beach strand last night.

“Initial reports indicate a good Samaritan pulled the unresponsive male from the shallow
waters. When emergency responders arrived on scene to render aid, no signs of life were
present,” according to a release from CBPD Detective Scott Hettinger.

Police, fire, and EMS responded to the call at 10:06 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. According to CBPD, the victim has since been identified but the name will not be released until his next of kin are identified. The official cause of death will be determined by the North Carolina Office of the Medical Examiner.

There are currently no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident, according to CBPD. The investigation is ongoing, however.

CAROLINA BEACH — Police in Carolina Beach have confirmed a body has washed ashore in the beach town, but details are limited for now.

The Carolina Beach Police Department (CBPD) are investigating the incident and do not have any additional information to provide to the media at this time according to CBPD Captain Harry Humphries.

An official statement is forthcoming, Humphries said, but CBPD did not provide a timeframe for when it will be released.

Port City Daily will provide an update when more information is available.
