Update Wednesday 6 a.m. – According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Richard Sean Lesink of Wilmington has been arrested and charged with Felony hit and run, driving while license suspended, and operating a vehicle with a revoked registration for an insurance violation.

Lesink was booked into the New Hanover County Jail under a $40,000.00 secured bond, according to Sgt. Kenneth Herring, but has since been released.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — A 67-year-old bicyclist was killed after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run collision while attempting to cross Carolina Beach Road late Saturday evening. State Highway Patrol is seeking any information about the collision and asks witnesses to contact its office.

A light-colored SUV or pickup truck with damage to the grill and front bumper area is suspected to have struck the victim, Sheila Faircloth. Faircloth was attempting to cross Carolina Beach Road from Silver Lake Road before being struck at approximately 11:25 p.m. Saturday. According to State Highway Patrol, the vehicle that struck Faircloth did not stop and fled the scene of the collision. Faircloth died at the scene.
